Burtzi at Methoni

The charm emanating from Greece’s medieval monuments is closely linked to the wars of an era long gone. The feelings are mixed, positive and negative but thrilling nonetheless. The Methoni castle stands in Messenia district of Peloponnese and was one of the most important forts in Greece during the Middle Ages. Burtzi was built by the Turks and was an important defensive structure used as a prison and torturing site (1500-1573).
